Let's Cultivate Some Peace in August

Updated: Oct 30

Hey everyone – I’m excited to share with you a bit about the theme for my August classes… inner peace & contentment. SCROLL DOWN FOR A LITTLE WELLNESS PRACTICE

In the world of Yoga, inner peace and contentment is a concept which can be wrapped up in the term ‘Santosha’.

Santosha is the idea that it’s inevitable that life will have ups and downs. Good days and bad days. But that actually by accepting that this is the way life will flow and treasuring our lives for the way they are right now, will help you to cultivate a sense of inner peace and contentment.

Contentment is almost one step further than happiness. It’s not this elated joy that we come to expect when we think of happiness, but instead this sense of calm and quiet joy within ourselves- that peace. The sense that despite what happens to us day to day, despite what the world might seem to throw our way, we can weather it; because ultimately that’s just the way life goes.

One of the best ways to connect to our inner peace and contentment is through practicing gratitude. Reflecting on and acknowledging the little things that we are grateful for in our lives each day can build that sense of inner peace. Treasuring the little things from the health of our bodies to the love of our partner can be a big step in filling up our own ‘peace cup’.

With the way of the world at the moment it can be really difficult to find this sense of inner peace. The media and social narrative are consumed by horrible things and negatives, perpetuating our sense of unease and fear.

Unfortunately the world is the world…there is darkness, but where there is darkness there is always light.

To cultivate our inner peace we learn to accept this and use the practice of gratitude to find those moments of light in our own lives, helping us to weather the storm when it comes to our own door.

So my tip for today is to practice that gratitude. Follow these steps below to take part.

Find a comfortable seated position

***

Close your eyes

***

Take one deep inhale – in through the nose for 4

***

Take a deep exhale – out through the mouth for 6

***

Resettle the breath

***

Now think of three things that you are feeling grateful for today

***

Bring a soft smile to your face as you think on these three things

***

Sit here for as long as you like just bathing in the peace it brings

***

Take another deep inhale for 4 and exhale for 6 to exit the practice

Let me know how you get on and I’m sending you positive vibes of peace

Love, Tash xx
