Leading your life- the intuitive way this March

This month we are going to be discovering the power of listening to our intuition and allowing it to lead us in life.

I like to think of our intuition as our own personal little compass. Its mission is to steer us in the direction that it right for us- always. Our intuition has got our backs, and it wants what’s best for us, because it is our biggest fan!!

But how? How does our intuition know what’s best for us? And why should we listen?

I believe that our intuition is connected and rooted into our authentic selves and our purpose. What we call in Yoga our Dharma. Our purpose is what we are here to achieve in life- weather or not you believe in a cosmic power, something higher than ourselves, or just the magic of our own beings- we all have a reason to be here, whether we know what it is or not yet.

Some of us never quite figure it out and that’s ok, but if you allow your intuition to guide you then you are never going to be too far off.

Your intuition is that compass, that gut feeling, that sense of right or wrong that lets you know when you are moving in the right direction or if you are straying down a different path.

And it will let you know!! Promise. It will scream at you if it has too… sometimes you just need to notice it.

Have you ever felt…

·      Tummy aches, headaches, indigestion – but can’t quite figure out why?

·      Tired, lethargic, grumpy and low mood – for seemingly no reason

·      Agitated, irritable, highly anxious

·      Unbalance, untethered, or maybe out of body experiences

All these things – and more- are signs that your intuition is trying to tell you that you aren’t quite moving in the right direction.

finding a quiet place above the noise

There is so much noise in this world that guides us in our decisions – what other people say, what society says, what work says etc and that distracts us from our true selves. If we can learn to tune out the noise and listen to our intuition, then we can start to hear our purpose and live in alignment with it.

Simples right?! Haha! A lot easier said than done, I know.

This month in class we will be working with the idea of Dharma as well as our third eye (Anja) chakra which is all about helping us to connect to ourselves, our purpose and our intuition.

We will be working with postures to align with this as well as breathwork and meditation to support us along the way.

My story

It took me years to figure this out for myself.

I was firmly following the life I was “told” I should have- by society, by school etc.

Leave school- go to sixth form. Go to University. Get a corporate job. Climb the corporate ladder as high as you can go.

You all know the drill.

I was firmly on this path… that corporate “MUST be the highest ranking marketing person ever” rhetoric. If I’m going to be a strong independent woman than I must succeed here.

And I did it… I was successful in the corporate world, I was building a great career for myself and I was damn good at it…. But I was so tried. Stressed every day. My relationship was suffering. I had headaches and tummy aches almost daily. A swollen face. I developed seasonal depression and was anxious most of the time.

So ill :(

And this wasn’t a state that I was in for the last couple of years of my corp life… when I reflect, I was always like this. I’d go on holiday and have tummy aches. I thought it was because I wasn’t eating very healthy, but I was and actually it was my body telling me something wasn’t right.

I wasn’t living in alignment with my values or purpose…from day dot of my adult life.

I remember when I was just leaving Uni and I had my first corp job, I said to my mum and dad that one day I wanted to be a yoga teacher. That was my intuition… it spoke up so loudly, but I didn’t listen. I got swept up in the corporate ego and went with it.

Well, eventually I started listening. Honestly, I had no choice. I was so sad all the time that it just wasn’t manageable anymore. I took myself off to therapy and if any of you have read my blogs before you know what happened next. Long story short- she helped me to articulate my values, discover my purpose (to live & help people live their best lives) and to begin separating myself from my corporate identity.

Now I’m not saying that corporate is the enemy here. In fact, it really isn’t. It’s taught me so much and I do not regret a single moment of my time there- some days and experiences were truly life changing! But I was too attached to the corporate life and my identity was getting confused.

We can all still live in alignment with our purpose and values whilst being in those environments, and I did for a while, once I discovered what my purpose was. But to truly live the life I wanted I eventually had to go my own way.

The tummy aches went away, so did the headaches. I also no longer suffer from seasonal depression. My intuition was speaking and eventually I listened.

Now I lead my life listening to my body every single day.

So how can you start listening to your intuition?

Start by tuning out the noise. Intuition isn’t something you find, it’s something you hear when everything else quietens down.

So, take a couple of minutes every day of ‘unplugged’ time (to coin Life in Colour’s term ).

No phones, no podcasts, no music, no journalling prompts, no TV- just you.

This could be:

·      Sitting with your morning coffee or tea

·      Going out for a walk

·      Sitting in the gym post workout or lying on your yoga mat post class

Anytime where you have a moment to not do a thing- no inputs.

And check in with yourself.

How am I feeling. What am I feeling. Where am I feeling it. What feels like a yes today? What feels like a no today?

When you reduce the noise, your body speaks louder- well you just start to hear it. That gut feeling, the sense that something is right or wrong becomes clear.

Over time you can start to build trust in your intuition and really allow it to guide you. Remembering that it has always got your back!

Love, Tash xx
