I bloody love Christmas….LOVE IT!! Always have. I love to get dressed up, go see Santa, put up my tree and spend cosy evenings at home watching Christmas movies – or Harry Potter!
But when one of my students asked me the other day what it is about Christmas that I love I took a moment to pause and think about it.

Nobody had ever really asked me that before. Yes, I love the presents, the decorations, the food BUT actually, what I love the most about Christmas is the joy, the connection… the spirit of it!
The fact that the world just seems a little bit happier in the month of December. There is more colour, more joy. The sense that in this moment we are all connected. I just think there is something super special about that.
In Yoga we talk a lot about the fact that we are all energetically connected to each other, the earth, animals and well, everything really… but at Christmas I think we can really FEEL that connection. THAT is why I love Christmas.

So, this month in class we are going to be embracing the Christmas spirit. We will work with themes like joy, connection and gratitude – especially as we come towards the end of the year- to really feel into what I believe the Christmas spirit is all about.
We will be moving through postures in class that work specifically with the heart chakra. Allowing us to open up our hearts to the magic that is Christmas. I will also be encouraging a gentle gratitude practice throughout the month of December. Gratitude is a beautiful way for us to open our hearts to the day to day magic that lives within our own lives… and as we work towards the end of the year it’s always a lovely practice to do to just remind ourselves where we’ve come from, what we’ve achieved and who we are.
Gratitude brings peace and contentment – exactly what we want this Christmas right!

I will also be exploring the balance that we all need over the Christmas months. The idea that yes it’s fun and festive, but also to remind ourselves that we are moving into the Winter months. A period where nature moves into hibernation and is encouraging us to do the same. We must focus on balancing our energy during this month- prioritising us in this moment- a lot easier said than done, I know.
Wellness tip
To help find that balance maybe try this…
For each fun, busy activity that you plan in your calendar, plan an equal amount of rest activities in your calendar too.
For example: 1 Santa visit = 1 walk in nature
Remember that rest is different for us all. It can be a nap, time alone, going for a walk, 1-1 time with your partner or a friend, a bubble bath and a book. Whatever that is, plan it in.
That rest is just as important as the festive activity and trust me... if you prioritise the rest you’ll feel even more jolly for the festive activity. Your family will appreciate it too!

Let me know what it is about Christmas that you love?
Love, Tash xx
