Choosing Positive Change this April

We made it guys! Spring is here…. And it has really sprung. As I sit here writing this it’s about 17 degrees outside and bright blue skies- absolutely gorgeous!! The trees are starting to blossom and I drove past a baby highland cow in a field just the other day. I may have squealed a little at just how cute it was!

With the Springtime we start to feel a little bit more energised. I don’t know about you, but fresh ideas are starting to come to me, I’m feeling a desire to be outside more and my energy for activities is definitely starting to spark again!

This renewed energy helps us to feel like we can actually start to make some positive change. Maybe we’ve spent the last few months thinking and contemplating different ideas or thoughts…maybe we even created a little vision board. Well, now it’s likely that we are finally starting to feel like the energy is appearing for us to begin to take action.

After our March theme of “leading with intuition” (check out blog here), we spent the month sitting with ourselves, learning how to pause and learning how to listen to what our intuition is trying to tell us… because we know that if we listen, it won’t steer us wrong.

Well, once we start to listen to our intuition and tune into what we actually want or even don’t want, then we can start to choose to make Positive Change. That positive change can be absolutely anything!! From reducing screen time or eating more fibre all the way to moving to a new country!!

Back out on the skates! Making a positive change to be outside more.

So, this month we are going to lean into how we can start to make that positive change.

To do this we are going to work with two concepts from Yoga. The first is Svadhyaya – self study. Essentially, we are going to continue to be curious about ourselves, pause and listen to our intuition. This takes time and it’s ok to not make any changes until you feel comfortable with what your intuition is telling you. Equally, it’s also ok to just go with it… find the flow and move… well, that’s what I’m trying to do anyway.

The second concept we are working with is once more our Solar Plexus Chakra. We’ve worked with this chakra a lot in my classes as it’s just such an empowering space to work within- which I absolutely love!! This month it’s helping us once more to believe in ourselves and pop some action behind that intuition. Giving us the power and a little momentum to make the jump and choose that positive change. Whatever that looks like for you.

Now a little caveat from me…making positive change can be hard sometimes, actually quite a lot of the time. Sometimes the changes feel like they aren’t positive at all. Often, they involve you confronting limiting beliefs, being vulnerable, re-learning learnt behaviours, challenging your nervous system or even setting boundaries with yourself and others. But my friends, if you stay true to yourself, your dharma (purpose & values) and really listen to your intuition… the changes you make will be positive, they will serve you and the people you love. You just trust yourself, back yourself and know that you’ve got this.

Positive Change- my story

I’ve shared with you guys many times my story of making the leap from corporate to self-employed life which was clearly one of the biggest positive change moments in my life… honestly, no regrets at all!

But in this month’s blog, I wanted to share a different and much more up to date story of positive change in my life. I chose this story to share because it’s relevant to me right now, but also, I wanted to demonstrate that positive change doesn’t have to mean massive life changing choices – like quitting your job. It can be smaller things, like changing your schedule. All changes in line with your intuition are going to be positive no matter how big or small…or how challenging they can be to make in the moment.

Recently I’ve been making a couple of changes to my class timetable. Some of you may or may not have noticed.

I realised that upon leaving the corporate world I had very much kept my corporate hat on and felt like I should be teaching all day, every day. Literally every day. For the first year of teaching, I did teach every day! I was knackered.

I realised (only recently) that even though I was leaving corporate to be “freer” and do my own thing, I was signing myself up to a rigid timetable once more that wasn’t really aligned to my energy. It was aligned to my purpose, my values and my goals- and I bloody loved it… but my energy was starting to struggle.

I was noticing that after some classes I was tired, where normally I’m buzzing post class. So, I took my own advice. I paused and I took note of what my body was telling me. AND it was shouting at me… I was falling asleep all the time!

I reflected on my timetable- which classes gave me energy and which didn’t. The ones that didn’t have now gone. I listened to my intuition, and I made the positive change.

I’m not going to lie to you though; it was difficult for me. My good friend Catherine (Life in Colour joy guru!), helped me to understand that I was placing limiting beliefs on myself and ultimately, I’m not in this line of work to burn my own energy out. If I want to show up for you guys in the best way possible, I need to look after my energy too. My limiting belief was that if I cancelled classes, my students would think I was unreliable and flaky. I was worried they would be disappointed, feel let down and not come back. But you are all so lovely, and everyone I’ve spoken to about it understands and is so supportive! I’m ever so grateful for the community that you are!

I realised I was following the preconceived idea of what I “should” be doing instead of listening to what was right for me.

The other thing I’m learning about change and flowing within life – is that you can always change again. So, if after a couple of months, I want to bring new classes in again (and no doubt I will, because I’m brimming with ideas!!) I can do that! I can make the choice to make change. AND that is critical for us to understand. It’s a choice. Always.

Wellness Tip

The intention behind positive change can simply be to feel better in ourselves and our energies. So, let’s start small, and do a little bit of journalling.

FYI – journalling can be done in your head, on a piece of scrap paper or in a proper notepad. No pressure, it’s just a dedicated time to help you reflect.

Have a think about your daily habits. Maybe ask yourself:

What did I do today that made me feel energised and nourished?

What did I do today that made me feel tired and drained?

List these things. And then reflect on:

·  How can I make positive changes to add more of the energising and nourishing activities into my day?

·  How can I make positive changes to the activities that make me feel tired and drained?

For example, if one of the activities that makes you feel drained is doom scrolling before bed… a positive change can be to set yourself an allocated timeslot to doom scroll. Once it’s done, turn the phone off or leave it outside your bedroom for the night and then read a book before sleep.

Enjoy!

So come join me in class this month, it’s time to back ourselves!

Love, Tash xx
