Overcoming Fear to Follow My Dream

Hey friends!
This month we are talking about bravery and courage so I thought it would only make sense to tell you more about my journey when it came to overcoming my own fear to follow my dream of becoming a full time Yoga teacher.
You’ve all heard me talk about moving out of corporate last year and how that was such a big life shift for me, well what I didn’t talk too much about was just how scary it was!

Well actually, the scariest bit was the worry BEFORE I even left my job. I’ve definitely experienced first-hand that the fear of potential is sometimes worse than the actual reality. Oftentimes you just need to have a little faith that you have the courage, the resilience, the skills and the grit to keep going even when it starts to get a little tough (which it inevitably will!).
I’m not going to lie, before I left my job I had so many worries. Reflecting on that time these are the fears that constantly popped up in my head.
Fear to leave a stable job
Fear to give up my title & status at work
Fear of what people will think of my new career choice
Fear to move into an industry I’m not an expert in
Fear to have no money
Fear to start a business from scratch in a community I don’t know
Fear of being alone and having no friends or community
Fear of not filling my classes- sometimes still not having many people come at all and being ok with that
Fear of how it will change my daily routine and schedule
Fear of not liking it when I’m finally there and living it
Fear of people not liking my class and resonating with me as a teacher and person

As you can see, there were A LOT of fears. Some of them still crop up every now and then, but in a small and much more manageable way.
I realised that my dream is MY dream and it doesn’t matter if people don’t see value in it. Those that do are my friends, those that don’t – aren’t. I realised that I am not my career choice. Whether I work in marketing or wellness – on Barbie or Flowing Flamingo, I’m still Tash. I realised that I CAN build a life by pursuing my dream and helping people AND that people do resonate with me as a person and enjoy coming to my class! So through simply living my dream I’ve been able to move past a lot of these fears.
It’s an ongoing process, but the thing that I’ve learnt and that I cannot stress enough is this:
The fear is always bigger than the reality
And through regular Yoga and mindfulness practice you can quiet the mind and fears allowing us to progress.

Fear is crazy really, it’s always there especially if you are doing something that involves change. But we can’t let the fear control us. Instead we understand the fear and DO IT ANYWAY!
Once we embrace that a healthy dose of fear will always accompany change then we are less likely to fear the fear…. You get me?!
So, my friends, embrace the fear but don’t let it control you, and you will make that dream a reality. However, big or small.
Love, Tash xx
