Finding Our Voice this September

My report card from school always used to say “Tash needs to speak up more in class”. When I first started work, the feedback from my first manager’s was “Tash needs to speak up more in meetings”.
I was a loud child at home, sassy and confident, but when it came to finding my voice in public I was a lot more reserved. Honestly, I didn’t think I’d get the answer right, or that my opinion wasn’t valid because I wasn’t the smartest person in the room.
I soon realised as I got older, that having a voice was not only important but critical! More on this in my next blog.

For so many of us we don’t think that what we have to say is important enough to say it. For so many of us we find it difficult to articulate and express ourselves. For so many of us we have constant noise drifting through our heads that, sometimes we don’t even know what we think.
Oftentimes we also worry that by sharing our truth we will hurt other people’s feelings, or ‘throw a spanner in the works’.
Sound familiar?!
Well, this month we are going to lean into finding our voice and remind ourselves that in fact – OUR VOICE MATTERS.

This month we are going to be exploring two aspects of finding your voice.
The first is more obvious- working around self-expression and communicating your needs and boundaries. The second is finding our internal voice aka your intuition. Tuning out the thoughts and tapping into what we actually want and who we really are- speaking truth to ourselves as well as to others.
We are going to be working with the throat chakra. An energy wheel in the body that sits in your throat (one of the more obvious ones) and is associated with communication, self-expression and imagination. We will be working on postures, breathwork and affirmations that will help us to move our energy freely through our throat chakra helping us to ‘find our voice’.

We are also going to be working with the yogic concept of Satya – truthfulness without harm. The idea that to be able to express ourselves we also need to know our truth. But that truth and honesty don’t come at the price of harm. We will be exploring how we can truthfully share who we are and what we want without being mean to others.
Come join me this month- because my friends- your voice matters!!
Fun Throat Chakra release exercise
A super simple mindfulness exercise today. Something to help you move your energy more freely through your Throat chakra.
Go somewhere you feel safe- your kitchen, car, bedroom. Pop on your favourite current song, get up the lyrics (or freestyle) and start singing at the top of your lungs.
Notice how you feel afterwards and maybe even journal about it, if it feels like the right thing to do.
Enjoy!
Love, Tash xx
